Elk California Nightlife
Below we have compiled a list of the most popular Westside dance clubs we can visit this weekend. It may not be as cool as it used to be, but it's still an option for the seasoned local swingers on Wednesdays and Fridays. The food is a little more modern, the sports bar can get quite festive, and the popular apré drink and inexpensive food is the Woodstone Grill at the Grand Lodge, which offers a casual setting. This is not a place for a romantic dinner, nor is it a mountain boarding club, just a bar and restaurant in the heart of the city.
Situated on the banks of the Navarro River, which flows into the Pacific, the view of Elk consists of a series of beautiful views along the river and its tributaries. Highway 1 will take you a few miles north to the San Bernardino National Forest Preserve, which covers an area the size of New York and overlooks the Pacific Ocean. With a well-maintained, winding access road and many deer to watch, there are more restaurants here than anywhere else.
If you want to explore much of the area, you can take a detour to Mendocino National Forest Preserve, a far less common way to get to Mendoino. If you follow US Route 101, you will find many trees in the more than 120 city parks, which cover over 2,000 acres. There is stunning scenery, including stunning redwood forests, but there are also great beaches and fishing, with well-maintained paths that first connect Blind Beach to Shell Beach and Wright Beach to the south.
One of the towns on the southern coast of Mendocino is more than ever worth a visit: the close community of small towns and entrepreneurs that can be found in Elk. You'll find plenty of wine along the famous Redwood Corridor inland, which offers a prime location for wineries. The Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association provides details of the area's wineries, as does Visit Mendoino. Another excellent resource is the Wine Institute of California, which provides information about various wine regions throughout the state, including guides for Mendocino winemakers.
Despite its small size, Elk has numerous amenities, including a driftwood beach and a number of restaurants and bars. Beyond the dramatically located village, you can visit the Elk Cove Inn, a chic little hotel set in stunning grounds that plunge into the ocean, or the nearby Redwood Cove Hotel, with its craftsman-style mansion built in 1883. Another option is the Elk Cove Inn and Spa, an upscale resort with a craft beer garden and artisan-style mansions dating back to 1881.
The Boat Club is a great place to ski, while deer walk on the frozen lake and the ice reflects a spectacular sunset. The more formal dining rooms offer a variety of food and drinks, as well as plenty of outdoor seating. There may be some pretty festive après-ski parties, but the merriment can start as soon as there's a good game.
At the southern end of the city, craft beer lovers should also visit the esteemed Anderson Valley Brewing Company, which serves some of the most interesting beers in its spacious bar and beer garden. If you like reggae, hip-hop or funk, Carbon in downtown Culver City should be on the list of hits of local dance clubs. The best night is Saturday, when a DJ plays a mix of classical and modern dance music, as well as a variety of live music from local bands.
Cafe Kandahar in Whitefish Village is something special, with a James Beard-nominated restaurant (yes, we were nominated) and a full-service wine bar. The tasting menu is perfectly combined with regional wines and it is one of the best wine bars in Los Angeles.
Everyone knows their pizza, but how often do you see this combination in a dance club, and there are usually long waiting times for a meal. If you're looking for cheap drinks and good food, Zanzibar is the place for you, with a full service restaurant, wine bar and dance area. Primarily a bar / lounge, the dance area is not quite as spacious as some other places, but it should still provide a fun night of dancing with friends. Busby's offers a wide selection of beers and wines, as well as great food and drinks, so it's a nice change from the other dance clubs in Los Angeles.
The Grand Elk is a fun golf experience and I plan to play at least two rounds there in the hope of playing a good round. I found it one of the most interesting of all Grand Elks and planned to play there if I am lucky.
